What is the difference between Neipa and Hazy IPA? ›

A NEIPA generally has a big fruit juice hop aroma and flavour, a lower perception of bitterness and a 'very' hazy appearance. We looked at what we like about NEIPAs, and in that context, created an IPA. The Hazy IPA has the same fruit driven aroma, but is less hazy to the eye - go figure!

Hazy IPAs are more expensive due to the cost of ingredients and the labor-intensive process of brewing. The making of a Hazy IPA requires more hops and yeast, which can be expensive and on top of that the brewing process takes longer, so brewers need to charge more to cover their costs.

Proteins and polyphenols.

This beer contains polyphenols from the dry hops (as “hop oils”) discussed above and any added fruit or citrus adjuncts. When proteins and polyphenols come together, they bind together and create a “colloidal haze” that isn't water-soluble and appears opaque.

There are many reasons why hazy IPAs have become so popular in recent years. One reason is that they are often easier to drink than traditional IPAs, which can be pretty bitter. Hazy IPAs also tend to be less carbonated than other beers, which makes them smoother and more refreshing.

Ale is a synonym for top fermented beer, a type of beer that traditional British breweries have always been experts in.

Compared to West Coast IPAs, hazy IPAs tend to have more hops added post-fermentation, with little to none in the kettle, and a smaller amount in the whirlpool. This leads to less bitterness, a mid-palate flavor, and more aroma.

The combination of the right yeast strain, a big dose of oats and mid fermentation dry hopping leads to a very hazy, creamy and citrusy beer. Remove any one of those features and you will get less haze, or less stability of the haze as the beer ages.

Bruts are different from a hazy IPA because there's no worry about keeping the yeast in suspension and therefore it has a longer shelf life. Something that makes a brewer's life a lot easier. Hazy IPAs are… well they're hazy! They're a cloudy beer because of the unfiltered yeasts.
