Hurricane Lee has weakened to 90 kt max wind as it continues WNW at 9 kts. Lee is forecast to slow its forward motion, possibly moving more to the west during the next 24-36 hours. Afterwards, an eastward-moving mid-latitude trough is expected to allow Lee to turn northward. Conditions favor strengthening again, possibly regaining max winds near 120 kts over the next 36-48 hrs.Thereafter, gradual weakening is expected with more rapid weakening as Lee moves north of 25 N, passing over cooler sea temperatures left from Franklin and Idalia last week.Heavy swell is causing dangerous surf and life-threatening rip currents are affecting portions of the northern Leeward Islands. These conditions are spreading westward and northward and will affect Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the Turks and Caicos, the Bahamas, and Bermuda during the next several days.Latest NHC Advisory: https://lnkd.in/eb_pAj-K

The issue with gaps between wave wall boards in poorly planned and design wave screens make for ineffective wave attenuation. The literature states that for vertical fencing, a 1in spacing between 10in boards (or 10% gap opening) will permit 50% of the wave to transmit through.we would expect this to be even higher when horizontal boards, as appears the case here with the video created from documentation of Hurricane Idalia… These are basically 3 sec waves hitting a fixed wave screen (ie porch fence with boards and small gaps). A small slit between boards in the porch fence basically does nothing to stop transmission of waves through (really rudimentary but illustrates the point). While an interesting way to show via real life physical model study (the personshome!), we wish all the best to those taking harm from the storm and hope that this soon passes without further loss.
